Installing a 6U Data Cabinet in your home

Installing a 6U Data Cabinet in your home
Pending on where you buy the Data Cabinet you may be required to assemble it.

You can find this cabinet at NewEgg for around 69.00

Next step is choosing a location to mount it.

When you figure out your location you will need to have power at that location. I relocated an existing power source.

Of course the location that you choose should be the junction point for all your networking. I'm running Cat 6 through this house the cost isn't that much more to plan for future fiber and gigabit speeds.

3/4 plywood as mounting point for the case and the use of carriage bolts.

Marking the mounting points

Finding the center to center distance.

I installed the cage bolts and tightened down to counter sink the bolt into place. then remove the nuts for installation after mount backer to wall.

Checking level of everything.

Added structure for mounting and proper support of the Data Cabinet.

I leave washers as spacer from board to cabinet to compensate cabinet offset. Prevents cabinet back from getting bent.

Panels are all removable for working in cabinet with ease.

Close up of the mounting from inside the cabinet.

Rechecking level

Now instead of mess at my desk everything is tuck out of the way in a nice power vented cabinet.

It takes some time but it's worth it. Much more organized.
